Chairwoman’s Message

I feel proud and privileged through my association with the Indus Earth Trust which has been working towards the fulfillment of its motto of “Development with Dignity,” through a consultative, inclusive ‘trickle up’ process.

IET has been focusing on environmental sustainability, and cognizant of Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, has been working to enhance the adaptive capacity of threatened communities through empowering women, community based disaster resilience trainings, sustainable livelihood options, greening of surroundings to combat rising heat, and simple technique to improve health through hygiene and indigenous water purification methods, amongst many other interventions.

I commend the way IET has ensured cooperation, collaboration and inclusion by acting as a bridge between the government and people through MoUs with the relevant government departments and academic institutions and taking on projects under the PPP (Public Private Partnership) approach so that things can be sustained beyond the project life cycle.

The Trust also is a firm believer in inclusion and works with religiously, ethnically and socially diverse communities.

It is also a believer in harnessing the power of youth through social actions and also remains engaged in promoting healthy activities like sports as a means for social uplift.

Empowering women has been at the center of IET’s efforts. We think that providing women with the tools and opportunity they need to thrive benefits the whole community and their success stories are document and shared through our communications platforms.

We create and implement projects aligned with the SDGs while at the same time working in the field of providing succor to the devastated communities during times of great difficulty e.g COVID-19, floods, displacement and resettlement after disasters. IET has always been ready with its experience to play a part in humanitarian response.

It has a team packing decades of experience of the development sector and has been navigating the difficult terrain very competently in the most trying of circumstances.

I am grateful for the support of the entire Board of Trustees who are all vested in IET and offer valuable suggestions and support whenever needed.

Finally, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our community, partners, and sponsors for their ongoing support.

We shall continue to work together to create a brighter future to bring marginalized communities at a level where they can help themselves.

Afia Salam, Chairwoman / President of the board
