Introduction

Indus Earth Trust is climate concerned organization strongly believe in reclaiming the better environment. IET do the activities which is helping to reduce the pollution in the cities, especially Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad. Indus Earth Trust entered into MOU with Sindh Forest Department for the establishment of the community-based nurseries and tree plantation drives in the Sindh.

Tree planting helps create a better environment by absorbing carbon dioxide, producing oxygen, regulating temperature through shade and evapotranspiration, improving soil health by preventing erosion and enhancing infiltration, conserving water, providing habitats for wildlife, and promoting biodiversity. Tree plantations can be a constructive strategy to combat climate change and improve environmental conditions, though it is important to support them with other sustainable efforts like protecting existing forests

Indus Earth Trust organized a Plantation Drive with collaboration of LUMS Community Service Society (LCSS). Students were planted local and environment friendly plants at Jahangir Park, Clifton, Karachi. Thanks to all the Dedicated Volunteers. IET is grateful for KMC and DG Parks and Horticulture, Karachi.

Objectives

1. Absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate global warming.
2. Trees absorb odors and provide oxygen, leading to fresher and cleaner air, especially in urban areas.
3. Reducing storm water runoff and pollution, which helps improve the quality of groundwater?
4. Stabilizing hillsides and other vulnerable areas through tree planting to control soil erosion and landslides.

Methodology/Procedure Adopted

• IET has identified the areas in the Jahnagir Park premises where less plantation is seen.
• Each student has planted a tree/plant in given premises and will be watering them on a daily basis.
• Students have taken potted plants from the Indus earth Trust team to take care of them.
• IET has talked to many people and made them aware about the importance of plants and the need of plantation.
• IET ensured plantation of new plants/trees where the plants/trees which are dried up/dead.
• IET ensured that the daily care of existing plants/trees is being taken properly.
